Update! [Feb. 16th, 2006|01:17 am]
I must say that despite rather erratic updates www.loserzcomic.com is on top form at the moment.

In other news, I'm posting whilst mildly tipsy again. Just been out with Sian & Keith (among others) who were up from whatever southern lands they hail from. Good to see them again.

In other other news I have pizza in the oven, must go.

Music to watch the traffic go by... twice [Feb. 8th, 2006|03:36 pm]
The road just up from our house is closed for resurfacing meaning we get to see every car twice as it goes past, realises the road is shut, turns round and drives back.

There is a sign about 200m before the closed bit so I've got to go with the old humanity-are-idiots theory again.

Saw an old woman drive an electric scooter (the type that does 4.5mph tops) through a busy 4-lane junction today, she was following the cyclepath but still...

Hopped up on Painkillers [Feb. 3rd, 2006|02:56 am]
[music |Guitar Wolof covers]

...which is kinda intersting, just went out for Ben (housenate)'s birthday and am at the moment fairly tipsy, drinking lots of water and listening to covers of Guitar Wolf songs (including one by The Wildhearts if Lippie reads this). My hair is freshly re-dyed bright red and gelled into a semi-mohawk, as is the hipster fashion these days.I've managed to find a decent dye this time so hopefully if won't fade to "light red" as fast this time.

Just ordered two Scary-go-round T-shirts, for those that aren't enlightened www.scarygoround.com is quite possibly one of the greatest, and most surreal, webcomics out there. The artist (a Uni of York alumnus) keeps trying to move away from the core charcaters that appeared in his previous comic Bobbins yet resolutely fails. John Allison is also second only to Jeph Jaques in the number of T-shirt designs that get posted on his site, unfortunately I was too late to get a "Tupping Liberty" shirt in anything but XS or XXL.

Yay for Ibuprofen.

Graaah [Jan. 26th, 2006|02:56 pm]
For some reason when I log onto my timetable through the internet it will randomly bring up any week except the current one.

Hence I am writing this in the King's Manor after reaslising I have a 3:00pm lecture NEXT Thursday, I even caught the ridiculously expensive bus to get here as I overslept.

Mere words cannot convey my sense of irritation.

In other news I picked up the Weapons of the Gods RPG and shortly thereafter discovered it was based on a comic, which I then found on Amazon. The RPG has an interesting system concerned with how many "sets" of dice (d10s) you roll rather than the total number, so three 1's would be better than two 9's for example. You can also store dice for later use in your "River". The setting is way-over-the-top Ancient China with gribbley bits so you have Scholars harnessing the forces of magic alongside Warriors weilding 200-lb greatswords as if they were LARP weapons, it's basically a more kickass version of Crouching Tiger/Hero type stuff.

It also has Drunken Monkey Kung Fu, which is col beyond mere words.

Argh, my feet [Jan. 15th, 2006|12:28 pm]
[music |iPod on random]

I've decided to start breaking in my new Doc Martens, given to me by a cousin who had a spare pair my size (and only worn once)

Ow

They're really abusing the backs of my heels at the moment, hopefully either the leather will soften up or my skin will get tougher.

Ow

I'd expected to play Legend of the Five Rings today but Edd couldn't get the room booked and forgot to text me so I'm in Wentworth PC room killing time 'til anime soc.

I have managed to get my outgoing e-mails working again, which is nice, though by "I Have" I mean "My Linux-god of a brother did it from 50 miles away"

I watched the Doom movie, it was as expected, the first person bit was kinda cool.

Second time lucky [Jan. 6th, 2006|11:16 pm]
Managed to find a watchable version of the Full Metal Alchemist Movie, though the subtitles were a little off.

It was good.

Aiiyyyeee [Dec. 28th, 2005|12:57 am]

The Bakery store manager's name is Ken

He has a friend called Ryu who runs a Noodle shop

They used to be a team of martial arts assasins (or something)

This anime is so goddamn cool!

Oh dear oh dear... [Dec. 27th, 2005|02:27 am]
[mood | shocked]

I've been watching Yakitate Japan recently, in fact I just finished watching episode 13.

One of the characters is the manager of the bakery store the main character works in, he is stupidly tall, obscenely muscled, wears his hair in an afro, has a permenant layer of stubble on his chin and is constantly wearing shades.

Episode 13 has a new ending sequence/song.

It's a CGI rendition of the manager in a white suit/red shirt on a flashing circular dancefloor pulling some John Travolta moves to some bizarre blend of Japanese hip-hop and disco.

This is an anime the ending is over two minutes long.

Oh my dear sweet godly beard of Thor...

Yeee-haw [Dec. 9th, 2005|01:15 am]
[mood | drunk]
[music |Pillows: Come Down]

Well today was fun.

First off there was the bounty of GURPS Japan & Old West arriving, I wasn't expecting them for another week or two.

Then there's the Animesoc social, you see Ali G's takeaway give us a discount of between 10% and 30% on our weekly takeaway order, and rather than pass on this highly variable discount to our members it all goes into a box, at the end of term we take our members to Wetherspoons, buy anyone who turns up a plethora of cocktails and proceed to get nice and drunk.

The Carrot Ironfounderson-esque punctuation and iffy spelling in this post probably attains to the fact this post is written after such a social, much delicious cocktail and a number of Gin & Tonics mean I'm in a somehat happy mood.

Oh, and my hair is RED dammit, so not pink, not in any way whatsoever, oh god no, nooooo...

Whoo [Dec. 1st, 2005|01:32 am]
[mood | happy]

One of my favourite webcomics has started updating again, hopefully this time Erik will last a little longer before he burns out again.

www.loserzcomic.com

Check it out, it's mostly jokes about nerds & boobs, which is a good thing.

Unexpected Bounty [Nov. 29th, 2005|01:15 pm]
[mood | thankful]

My Warehouse 23 ridiculously-cheap-3rd-edition-GURPS-books-package arrived today and they'd thrown in an artbook by Christopher Shy full of cyber/noir/horror style art, it's all very, very dark, very very good and just a little disturbing, the several pieces he did for In Nomine and All Flesh Must be Eaten are especially good.

My Shadowrun Players may be coming across some more twisted nemeses in the future.

Hell of a Nerdgasm [Nov. 28th, 2005|04:00 pm]
I just finished getting the Full Metal Alchemist Movie, may watch it before Shadowrun players turn up.

Bought the SPANC Cardgame (Space Pirate Amazon Ninja Catgirl) from Travelling Man Leeds on Saturday, along with a dirt-cheap 2nd hand copy of GURPS: IOU (Illuminati University).

My Spring Plum pattern Samurai Sword set (katana wakizashi & tanto on a stand) should be arriving this week, hopefully tomorrow. I was meaning to buy kitchen knives but, well, things got out of hand...

The cold/flu/ickiness is still bugging me in the form of an acutely painful cough *sigh*.

Damn cats [Nov. 26th, 2005|12:32 am]
Finding www.twolumps.net has taken my mind of feeling so lousy today, damn their adorable kitty antics.

Going to Leeds tomorrow, should try to get sleep.

Ick! [Nov. 24th, 2005|03:59 pm]
[mood | sick]

Damn illnesses, I can hardly talk, hardly drink and eating hurts like a bitch. I'm looking forwards to 5:00pm so I can have more painkillers and eat something in the short time they work.

Got to go and suck up to the SU tonight and hope they give us lots & lots of money for Animesoc, could be fun as I currently sound like I've smoked twelve packs a day for the last eighty years.

Well that was fun. [Nov. 22nd, 2005|07:14 pm]
I've got to go buy a new cycle helmet tomorrow.

Got to bend some spokes on the front wheel of my bike back into place.

Theres a nice hole in the left knee of my Jeans as well.

At least I didn't hit the fucking cat that lept out in front of me.

Oh, and when I'd walked my bike home and caught the bus into town I discovered that the online timetable was wrong and my seminar was actually yesterday afternoon, not this morning.

The powers that be [Nov. 17th, 2005|02:42 pm]
This ones mainly for Vanderath, but anyone else with a passing interest in GURPS may like a look at this:

Take a look at the .pdf excerpts on the left of the page, you know a book is gonna be good when just reading the index makes you excited!

Aw Crap [Nov. 16th, 2005|04:04 pm]

whoo, cheap GURPS [Nov. 15th, 2005|08:22 pm]
From the Warehouse 23 section of the SJGames boards:

"We're getting ready to move to a new building at the end of this year, and we've got too much stuff.

To help with this problem, Steve Jackson Games has decided to permanently mark down most of the third edition line: all full-sized softcover books (along with a couple bonus hardcovers!) have been marked down to $9.95.

All undersized softcover books have been marked clear down to $4.95.

Remember - this sale is only for as long as supplies last and supplies vary wildly. If there's something you absolutely must have, I advise getting it soon."

Linkage: http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread.php?t=9700

Even including postage & customs that's darn cheap, so I gots myself Vikings, Steampunk Hardcover, Steam-tech & Illuminati.

Long time no update. [Nov. 13th, 2005|01:34 am]
Since last time:

Saw the Wallace & Gromit film, and it was good.

Stood around at Freshers Fair with Odangochan for ages and ages meeting prospective new members, handing out sweeties, and getting rather tired.

Turned up for the first Animesoc meeting only to discover there'd been a booking mistake and we couldn't have the room we wanted, but Sonia found us another whilst I held the fort greeting & apologising to the new members. When I got home I proceeded to book the room until week 7 (the furthest ahead it could be booked)

Started a Shadowrun 4e game on Monday nights, 'tis going well and I haven't killed anyone yet (though Karl was turned into a ghoul)

Joined Edd's Legend of the Five Rings 3e game as the dashingly glamourous bounty hunter Tsuruchi Michinori of the Wasp clan, 'tis fun.

Handed in 26 copies of the supplementary grant form for Animesoc, and then billed the society for the copying costs.

Turned 20, got taken out for a meal & shopping by my parents and then proceeded to go get drunk, 'twas fun.

Finished watching Mahoromatic series 1&2, I think I have a new favourite anime, I just have to wait until the summer special is delivered from Amazon and I get my fix of android-maid goodness.
